Water-DROP project at the ENPI CBCMED- READY MED FISH Project Capitalisation Meeting in Beirut

On october 12, 2015, Stefano Lelli -CNRS- presented Water-DRop project in the Capitalisation Meeting organised by the ENPI CBCMED- READY MED FISH project in Beirut, by the Ministry of Agriculture of Lebanon (MoA) at their premises. During this meeting, the presentation was delivered in the presence of 21 people representing the MoA, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry, FAO Lebanon, fishing communities, ENPI-Ready Med Fish project, “Sustainable Fisheries Management for Improved Livelihoods of Coastal Fishing Community in Tyre, Lebanon” project (implemented by IUCN).

R.E.A.D.Y. Med. Fish project aims at enhancing the professionalization of young fishery operators for boosting the private entrepreneurship and the normative improvement in the framework of the fishery sector multi-functionality. In order to achieve this objective, the Project has individuated 4 results to be achieved: i) definition of new professional profiles on multi-functionality of fisheries; ii) training of experts, technicians and young operators on multi-functionality of the fisheries sector; iii) revision of the legislation on multi-functionality of the fisheries sector and elaboration of proposals for the adaptation of relevant regulations; iv) development of a network of info desks and a technological platform for the promotion of multi-functionality in the fisheries sector and support to the start-up of businesses by young operators. 

The increased capacity of the Public Administrations and Fishery Associations in supporting the new professionalisms will be consequence of the improvements in the relative normative framework, of the increased opportunity to exchange experience with similar Mediterranean entities working on the same issue, and to the fact that a harmonized set of professional profiles is set up at the Mediterranean level.
